Wei Yao

Wei Yao is a Professor at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), School of Medicine. She serves in the UC Davis Medical Center Federal Academic Association, UC Davis School of Medicine Admissions Committee, Department of Internal Medicine Member of the Academic Research Committee. Her research interests include the pathology and novel drug targets development for osteoporosis and arthritis. She was among the first to propose and implement the bone target application of mesenchymal stem cells, and invented a series of innovative drugs to improve bone growth, treat osteoporosis, osteonecrosis, fracture healing and treat other potential diseases. In recent years, she was awarded the Most Outstanding Research Award of the University of California Davis, the UC Davis Dean’s Team Award, UC Davis Academic Federal Excellency in Research Award, and the best mentor Award (Department of Internal Medicine) and many other awards. Her work has been published in important international journals such as Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, Bone, Stem Cell, PNAS, JBMR et al. Her research focuses on drug discovery and translational studies on bone and joint disorders. She also studies factors affecting the sex differences in the musculoskeletal system, including progesterone receptor and Wnt signaling.
